RECOVERY from Sport or Training- Overview

Physical exertion in sport and training causes body tissues to be physically stressed and at times damaged. The body needs to be physically stressed to improve fitness but needs rest and recovery to actually improve and capitalise on the training. Proper recovery techniques are paramount to maximise performance and avoid injury.

Good recovery causes:
  • Better adaption to training
  • Decreases the risk of injury
  • Enhances performance
  • Allows the body to train/compete again as soon as possible​

But what is the right way to go about it? There are many different recovery techniques which can be used at different times. All can aid in the recovery of body tissues in different ways. These include:
  • Sleep and rest
  • Warm down
  • Stretching
  • Nutrition
  • Massage
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Compression

​Over the next few posts I will be going through each technique in depth. This will teach you how to properly recover and give you and your body the best chance to perform at your peak.
